Dream Catchers on a Budget

I was so excited to hear when my cousin Pooja was getting married... and being on her bridal shower team... the DIYer in me was eager to make some decor that matched her personality.

I know that Pooja loved boho design, and whimsical and earthy vibes, so I decided to make some dream catchers for her bridal shower / bachelorette party, (because finding and buying dream catchers would've been hella expensive).

On my mission to shop for supplies, I scoured for an alternative for the metal ring that is normally used when making catchers, which forms the circle to "catch our bad dreams". I figured that I could buy thick paper plates and cut out the centre to get a ring shape, which was such a huge budget-saver for this DIY.

Here's the material and steps to create your own dream catcher:

Materials:

- Thick paper plates - Fair & Square

- Doilies - Fair & Square

- Various ribbon, yarn, and lace - Bachu's, Chaguanas

- Feathers - Samaroo's

- Scissors

- Hot glue gun and hot glue sticks

- X-acto knife

- Glue stick

Step 1:

Cut out the centre of your paper plates with an x-acto knife. (You can use scissors, but it is much easier with a knife.)

To make a moon-shape dream catcher, cut your paper plate to create a crescent shape, and glue it together. Otherwise you can leave them as full circles.

Step 2:

Tie off a section of the paper plate with yarn. Apply some glue with your glue stick in small sections and begin tightly wrapping yarn around the paper plate. (At first, I skipped this step, but it looked incomplete.) This will take time, but be patient. Put on some music or Netflix and wrap away! Using a piece of yarn, create a loop and tie it to the top so that your dream catcher can hang.

Step 3:

Using your hot glue gun, carefully glue your doily to the back of the dream catcher. If there is an excess, trim accordingly with your scissors.

Step 4:

Trim your ribbon and lace to the desired length and then hot glue to the back of your dream catcher.

Step 5:

You can choose to either tie or hot glue your feathers to end of your ribbons.

And that's it! To make one of these dream catchers costs less than TTD20.00 a piece... Which is amazing. By the way, Pooja loved the dream catchers. I made enough, so at the end of the party, each guest could take one home. They doubled as the perfect decor and party favours.
